Essence is a nutrient-dense, cost-effective alternative  to fetal bovine serum (FBS) and has been shown to be effective on a wide range of cell types and origins, including both suspended and adherent cell types and recognized sensitive cell lines. IRON SUPPLEMENTED BOVINE SERUM (BCS)

The iron-supplemented calf serum comes from animals up to six months old and raised on a diet that consists primarily of formula. Because of their unique diet, parent animals naturally have high levels of transferrin.

When serum is supplemented with iron, the iron binds to unbound transferrin, resulting in a product with three to four times the amount of available iron compared to FBS or horse serum. This product is an excellent, low-cost alternative to FBS and often performs as well as FBS in many established cell lines. In some applications it even outperforms FBS and horse serum.
